<p>A core is made for a ventilated brake disc which consists of a composite casting using a pot-shaped hub provided with peripheral teeth and a perforated flange. The hub is placed between the upper half (1) and the lower half (2) of a core box. The perforated flange of the hub is placed on the base of half (2) and projecting webs on half (1) press the top of the hub downwards until the peripheral teeth rest on a ring located in half (2); the resulting cavities are then filled by shooting in core sand. The base of (2) is pref. mounted on bushes fitted with bolts provided with cup sp springs so the hub is pressed upwards and a good joint obtd. between the two core box halves (1,2). Air channels are provided in the casting for cooling the brake disc without forming walls of uneven thickness in the finished composite casting; uneven wall thickness can lead to overheating of the brake disc.</p> |
