A ball bearing suitable for light loads has an outer race (1) and an inner race (2) made of plastics. The steel balls (3) are forced into position by elastically deforming the races (1, 2), and are retained by the flange (8) of the outer race (1). The rigidity of the bearing during service is ensured by fitting a steel shaft in the bore (9) and a steel housing around the outer race (1). The outer race can be reinforced against side loads by fitting a metal plate in the recess (6). This method of construction obviates the need for a cage to retain the balls (3) in the bearing.
