A temperature indicator for taking the temperature of children overcomes the dangers of a glass thermometer by using non toxic temperature sensitive elements which melt or disappear completely at a particular temperature. An indicator comprises a body (12) of confectionery which surrounds a sleeve (27a) made of a flexible material. A number of orifices (27e) in the embedded part of the sleeve contain elements each sensitive to a particular temperature and each having different colours or shapes. These elements comprise a non toxic paraffin mixed with non toxic colouring. The indicator is constructed in the form of a teat with a disc (27d) at the end of the sleeve and carrying a U shaped handle (27c).
