A woven carpet as skiing or water-skiing surface is made with twisted threads for warp and weft, with some of the warp threads twisted one way and some the other (pref. the two twists alternately, and pref. with the weft threads also twisted in opposite directions). The warp threads pref. pass in parallel zigzags over and under the weft threads. The pref. starting material is 65 - 95% polypropylene, the remainder polyethylene; it is formed into warp and weft threads all of the same dia. 0.06 - 0.15 inch.
