In order to point the line of sight at the target irrespective of the position of the firearm (19), the transmitting and receiving channel of the electro-optical range finder (20) is located in a predetermined position relative to the firearm (19). A servo control device (16, 6) is used for aligning the range finder (20) and the firearm (19) parallel to the line of sight of the observation telescope (14). The aiming device produces co-ordination of the command signal for the range measurement with signals which supply information on the deviation of the alignment of the range finder (20) from the alignment of the line of sight. The command signal is passed to the range measuring device (20) only when the deviation signals supply the information that the deviation is at least approximately zero.
