The composite heat-insulating profiled section comprises two metal shells held apart and joined by an insulating bar fitting in grooves in the shells. Ribs on the shells fit into recesses in the insulating bar. The ribs are formed by distortion into engagement with the recesses in the bar, and are shaped so as to resist thrust or shear loading in the lengthwise direction of the section. Teeth or a coating containing additives on the bar increase the coefficient of friction. Typically the coating can be of varnish containing grains of sand, quartz or corundum, the portions of the grains not immersed sed in it protruding towards the outside.
