The air coding section is for cooling off wire coils where between a coil layering device and a coil forming station, there is a roller path on which the wire coils are expanded. The roller track is divided into several sections and the rollers at adjacent sections are driven a different peripheral speeds. The track rollers of the individual track sections are driven by separate motors. The rollers of the individual sections have different size outside diameters. The torque transmitting elements between drive meters and track rollers have different step-up ratios for the individual sections.
