<p>The cable reel is intended for use with portable or movable appliances. there is no limit on the number of revolutions of the drum, but rotation is only permitted in the current free or switched off state. Typically the arrangement is made to take a variety of reel sizes, the cable being connected to the contact arrangement with a suitable plug. The contact is coaxial with the reel axis and comprises a solid contact ring (1) and an annular contact spring (2) surrounding the ring for each electrical pole. The spring is split and the free ends (3, 4) are located in a follower (6). When stationary the spring is in pressure contact with the ring and current flow is permitted. When the cable is being reeled either in or out the follower exerts a pressure on the appropriate free end (3, 4) thus contracting the spring slightly to allow free movement.</p> |
