Hygienic rectal extractor for obtaining faecal samples - has sterilised tube with outer cleansing sleeve and sealing cap

The hygienic extractor for obtaining samples of solid or liquid stool (faecal matter) uses a sterilised, disposable tube which reduces the risk of contamination and flase results in the laboratory. A thin tube (1) is fitted with a sleeve of disposable material which can be flushed away in water (2). It is supplied with a cap (3) and pin in a sterile pack. The cap is removed and the end of the tube is inserted into faces. The tube is then withdrawn through the sleeve which wipes the tube clean. The end is then sealed and the device is taken to the test laboratory. The required amount of the specimen is then ejected by means of the piston (4) which is moved by insertion of the pin into the other end of the tube. A similar extractor with a rubber suction bulb is used for fluid samples.
