A fire extinguisher for use in mines has a feedline for the pressurised agent which connects through a control valve to a mixer which adds typically foamer, wetting agents etc. The additive stock is monitored so as to close the control valve for the extinguishing agent when the stock falls below a minimum value. An exciter line should be provided which connects with the control valve and has exciter valves and between these and the valve has a cutoff valve to close when the additives fall below a minimum level in the stock container. This cutoff valve should be linked by line to a valve which applies the pressure of the agent to close off the exciter line in response to the weight or fill in the stock container.
