Roll that can be heated or cooled by water flowing through the inside with a central core forming the roll body, on which a cylindrical sleeve is fastened and which is provided with at least one spiral element between the roll body and the inner surface of the sleeve, through which at least one spiral passage way is formed. At least one element is provided for inlet or removal of liquid from each passage way. Principally for guide rolls in steel casting plant, giving effective cooling without distortion or cracking.
