Treating keratinous textiles with curable polythiols - and soluble inorganic cpds., to impart resistance to shrinkage and permanent press

Treatment of textiles comprises applying to the textile a curable cpd. of formula (I): HOOC-R'R2-COO- (CmH2mO)n-OC-R2R'-COO x-H (I) (where R' = trivalent organic gp.; R2 = a residue contg. or comprising a cross-linkable thiol gp.; x is >=1; n is >=1; CmH2mO is a linear (un branched) oxyalkylene gp. where m is >=3, providing than when n=1, m is >=10 (these cpds. are disclosed in DT2436035), together with a compatible soluble inorganic cpd. in an aq. medium. The cpd. (I) is then cured. Used to render keratinous fibres, esp. wool, resistant to shrinkage and permanent-press without the need for a degradative pre-treatment, e.g. chlorination. The present treatments may be effected during the dyeing process, thus obviating a further treatment stage.
