The head frame for a scraper chain conveyor includes two side members joined together by a cross beam and a drive or a return sprocket mounted on the side members. On the cross beam is detachably mounted the head frame deck plate with an opening through which projects the chain sprocket. Also detachably supported by the cross beam is one or more chain strippers. The chain strippers and a tongue shaped extension of the deck plate are joined together to form an assembly unit. The chain strippers project in a free space in the region of the chain sprocket and the tongue shaped extension encloses the free space from the top. The assembly unit is supported and its detachable connections are secured by parts of the head frame which form limiting surfaces of the free space.
