Construction joints for sides of furniture - ribs on undersurfaces interlock and held by compression between flexible cores

Each side comprises a flat outer sheet (2, 12) and has, on its undersurface a series of straight ribs spaced transversely across it. Each rib is of composite construction, being composed of a flexible core (4, 14) of compressible material, such as rubber, with its outer sides (6, 16) of a rigid material. In use, the ribs fit into the spaces between the ribs on the other side, this space being less than the width of the rib, to provide a compression fit the two mating sides form a 90 deg. corner (20a). Ring angle brackets working on the same principle can also be used for the joint.
