Multiple feedthrough connector for opencast mining machines - has plug and socket in sleeve linking airtight and safe areas for fireproof coupling

The flame-proof multiple feedthrough connector, for open-cast mining machines, consists of an outer sleeve (6) joining an intrinsically safe area (3) to an air-tight area (1). The sleeve contains a socket (11) at one end and a multiple plug (10) at the other. The plug's contacts are soldered to the wires in the air-tight area and cast into the sleeve. The plug's contact pins extend into the intrinsically safe area. The sleeve is stepped down towards the safe area and a disc (12) separates the halves of the sleeve. The socket, when inserted, is also cast in place with a suitable encapsulating material.
