The catalyst may contain a silver promotor e.g. in amount up to 50 wt% Ag. The carrier used in the Examples is magnesia. The spent catalyst may be regenerated by treatment with O 2 . The catalyst may be fluidized with an inert gas or a gaseous reactant such as lower alkanes.
