1483528 Scouring and bleaching KANEBO Ltd 6 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 38986/74 Heading D1P [Also in Division C5] A method for simultaneously scouring and bleaching textile fibre material comprises treating the fibre material with a liquid halogenated hydrocarbon containing a peroxide bleaching agent and an organic carbonate which may be an alkylene carbonate or a hydroxy alkylene carbonate, the weight ratio of bleaching agent to carbonate being from 10:1 to 1:5. The bleaching agent is preferably hydrogen peroxide, per acetic acid, per boric acid, potassium per sulphate, ammonium per sulphate, sodium per sulphate or mixtures thereof. The preferred carbonate is ethylene carbonate. The halogenated hydrocarbon of which many are specified, is preferably trichloroethylene. The treatment liquid may further contain an anionic, cationic, non-ionic or amphoteric surface active agent, preferably a mono- or di-polyalkylene glycol hydrocarbon ether phosphate. The impregnated fibre material, containing 0.5-10% wt. of the peroxide bleaching agent, is heated at 70-150‹C for 3-60 minutes by use of steam and thereafter washed with a solvent which may be the same as or different from the halogenated hydrocarbon used for impregnating. The material is then blown with steam at 80-110‹C to remove the washing solvent, and finally washed with a small amount of hot water. Cotton or cotton/polyester, polyester, acrylic and polypropylene fibre materials may be treated. |
