ROTARY PLUG VALVE

The vessel being sealed may be spherical or it may be cylindrical in shape and it is mounted on two diametrically opposed trunnions so that can rotate continuously. The hatch is airtight and its seal is impervious to the fluid, which may be uranium hexafluoride gas. The seat for the plug type hatch may be spherical so that slight misalignment does not cause leaks. An alternative type of seating is flat, used in conjunction with a flat disc type of hatch. When the hatch is opened, a fixed handling device removes the hatch from the vessel, after which it may be rotated to tip out solid material.
