<p>1474336 Pneumatic tyre and wheel assemblies FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 23 May 1975 [31 July 1974] 22619/75 Heading B7C A tubeless pneumatic tyre and wheel assembly comprises an insert 22 located on the wheel rim within the inflation chamber defined by the tyre and wheel and having a substantially cylindrical radially outwardly directed surface 28 for supporting the tyre should the latter deflate, and an annular lubricant containing reservoir 31 engaging the surface 28 and circumscribing the insert, the reservoir 31 being rupturable when the tyre is run deflated to release the lubricant whereby the latter lubricates the contacting surfaces of the tyre and insert. The insert 22 may be moulded from elastomeric material such as polycarbonate or P.V.C. and may comprise radially inner and outer cylindrical portions 23, 24 interconnected by radial elements 26, 27. The reservoir 31 may be located in a groove 29 in the surface 28 and may be of circular, as shown, or triangular section (Fig. 5 not shown). There may be plugs (32) (Fig. 4 not shown) within the reservoir 31 dividing the latter into segments such that when the tyre is run deflated build-up of lubricant at one end of each segment causes the reservoir to rupture releasing the lubricant.</p> |
