The weight lifting machine incorporates a circular disc (4) rotating about a vertical axle (4), and has a driving band (7) around the periphery of the disc which works in contact with a cylindrical rotor (6). The latter drives a dynamo whose output is dependent on the speed of rotation of the rotor, which has the effect of a flywheel. The rotor is mechanically mounted on a hinged cross-arm and its weight is balanced by a counterweight (14), on the opposite side of the rotating disc. A relay contact is incorporated in the circuit which may be operated in conjunction with the dynamo.
