<p>Process for treating scrap and waste plastics materials comprises treating the comminuted material with a succession of solvent mixt. each more specific than the last. The process pref. comprises treating the mixed plastic waste in a series of indirectly heated digesters and passing the resulting solns. by gravity into separators adjoining each digester. The soln. is passed into the separator by way of a grid which retains any solid undissolved material. The process is useful for sepg. and recovering plastic materials from mixed waste such as industrial scrap and offcuts, and urban refuse. The latter comprises (in France) 61% polyolefins, 20% PVC, 14% polystyrene and 5% various other resins.</p> |
