The demountable support cage positions several pairs of spectacles in a rotary lends grinding or polishing drum. The cage comprises a spine (13) of uniform square hollow section with sets of three arms (14, 17) radiating perpendicularly at longitudinal intervals. When viewed in transverse section the spine (13) with radiating arms (14, 17) is an inverted 'T'. A pair of spectacles (12) is supported between each stem (17). A further bar (18) running parallel to the spine (13) spans between the free ends of each stem (17) to give support to the bridge (18) of each pair of spectacles. The bar (18) is bent into a depressed 'U' shape in the areas local to bridge support and acts with a counter retaining bar (20). The ends (16) of the legs of each pair of spectacles (12) are secured in eyelets at the opposite ends of the cross bars (14).
