The cooling tower is in the form of a reinforced concrete hyperboloid shell structure, and is designed to combine moderate wall thicknesses with enhanced stability under heavy wind loading, and allow construction of larger towers. The thin reinforced concrete shell is stiffened by a steel lattice structure, so that horizontal and/or vertical chords are connected to the shell, at a set interval from it, by diagonal bars, so as to provide shear strength. The shell may be erected as a site concrete unit, or made up from prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs. The chords and diagonal bars may be detachably joined together by screws at the nodal points. The tower may be altered, or completely dismantled and re-erected, without damage to prefabricated concrete slabs or steel lattice components.
|
