Plate heat exchanger with internal baffles - having pressure drop balanced on either side for optimum heat transfer

Heat exchanger for heat transfer between two media consists of a number of plates sepg. the media from each other. Every other space has the medium giving up heat flowing through it while the rest of the spaces take the other one. The plates are polygonal having a number of side edges and are tightly sealed from each other. Along the top and bottom edges are passages for the incoming and outgoing medium streams which open into the spaces. The surfaces of the plates so arranged that independent of the flow direction, the pressure drop through the spaces is uniform. In >=1 of the set of passages baffles are located to extend the flow passages and act as spacers to control the spacing between the plates. The plates can also have spacing studs the positioning of which facilitates the mounting of the baffles. The system permits the velocity on one side to be increased without effecting the other side.
