The transfer appliance is for passengers and loads, esp. for ships with high decks and uses a pilot ladder. An outrigger arm is positioned on the deck at a small distance to the outer skin of the ship and parallel to it. The arm may be swivelled by a mechanical or hydraulic drive unit. - The free arm end carries a platform, surrounded by a protective cage, and the pilot ladder ends on the platform. Mechanical units ensure that the platform occupies a horizontal position at any position of the arm. The protective cage has a lockable entrance at the ladder end. The outrigger arm consists of a telescopic sections, moved in and out by a mechanical or hydraulic working cylinder.
