Railway vehicle bogie suspension - has spiral springs combined with laminar rubber blocks and projecting spur to limit sideways movement

The suspension consists of two spiral springs (6) combined with laminar rubber blocks (7) at each side of the vehicle, and a further pair of laminar rubber blocks (10) between the undercarriage and a spur (11) extending downwards from the vehicle. All the rubber blocks are rectangular in section, with their long sides set transversely to the direction of travel. The sideways motion of the vehicle is restrained by the spur (11) working against rubber buffers (12) whose stiffness increases as they compress. A rigid frame (8), restrained by shock absorbers (13, 14) connects the four side springs.
