The locking mechanism for moving panels of windows or doors has a locking cam on a fixed frame and a sliding locking arrangement for the moving panel. The locking arrangement is fastened on a baseplate parallel to the plane of the actuating rod. This mechanism can be used for right hand and left hand mounting and it ensures locking or opening by easy actuation movement without overloading any existing seal. - The baseplate (38) has two side by side arranged locking arrangement members (38) which are parallel to the actuating rod (7). These form a locking claw (31) of U cross-section for enclosing the locking cam. The locking cam and the locking claws (31) can be adjusted by an eccentric.
