1483436 Riveting; making endless belts FLEXIBLE STEEL LACING CO 28 May 1975 [10 June 1974] 23318/75 Headings B3U and B3A A belt fastener 12 is attached to the end of a conveyer belt 15 by inserting rivet and nail assemblies 30, 29 through aligned holes in the fastener and forming heads on the lower ends of the rivets by driving the rivet against a supporting anvil 43. Each assembly is passed through the belt until the lower end 57 of the rivet contacts an annular abutment surface 48 provided on the apertured work supporting anvil 43, the end then being turned over to form a riveted connection. The nail may have a curved-head to assist in deforming the rivet, or may have a cylindrical shank. The abutment surface may be formed on a button 70 or may be formed integrally on the anvil Fig. 11. Each nail is initially held by adhesive to its associated rivet, the bond being broken during riveting. The fastener 12 may be of U-shape to form a hinged connection with a similar fastener on a further belt end, or may be of plate form (Figs. 12, 13, not shown) for directly connecting two ends. The rivet may be of steel, stainless steel or monel (Registered Trade Mark). |
