<p>1483150 Treating human and animal waste products AN FORAS TALUNTAIS 20 May 1975 [29 May 1974] 21612/75 Headings C1B and C1C A method of treating human and animal waste products in the form of a slurry to produce a semi-solid material comprises adding to the slurry and admixing therewith an aldehyde together with a nitrogenous substance having free amine or amide groupings and capable of complexing with the aldehyde, and then adjusting the pH of the mixture until it is less than 4 to promote complex formation, and subsequently neutralizing the material. The waste products may be animal manure, human excreta, dairy effluent, blood or intestinal contents. The product of the process may be used as a fertilizer, alone or admixed with peat moss, or with added trace elements (e.g. P, S, K and trace elements). The aldehyde used may be formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or glutaraldehyde, and the nitrogenous substance may be biuret, urea, casein, gelatine, animal hides, hoop, crushed bone, blood, animal offals, feathers or wool.</p> |
