1483011 Bearing GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 4 Feb 1976 [5 Feb 1975 17 Sept 1975 15 Oct 1975] 4849/75 38142/75 and 42115/75 Heading F2A A plain bearing comprises a part cylindrical journal shell 11 and a separate end flange 12 engaged in a recess 15 in the back of the shell at or near one end and located circumferentially by co-operation of at least one notch in the shell and at least one lug 22 on the flange. The recess is preferably in the form of a groove and a lug is provided at each circumferential end of the flange with the corresponding notch in the shell for each lug. The whole length of the radially inner edge of the flange, other than the portion at the lug(s) preferably lies in the recess. The shell and flange may be assembled by flexing the shell radially inwardly and allowing it to spring back with the recess embracing the radial edge of the flange. Where the shell is not sufficiently flexible, the or each lug may be deformed out of the plane of the flange while it is assembled in the recess and then the lug(s) is deformed back into the circumferential location position. Alternatively the shell and flange may be assembled at the inner edge of the flange just outside the recess and then the inner edge is deformed at local parts and forced into the groove. Such local parts are conveniently lubricant grooves where the material is thinner than the rest of the flange. The end of the shell preferably tapers axially outwards and the inner edge of the flange tapers radially inwards. |
