1483383 Analogue-to-digital and digital-toanalogue conversion SONY CORP 19 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973] 50128/74 Heading H3H In digitally encoding an analogue input signal, a bank of comparators C 1 ... C 15 compares it with respective reference levels which are incremented for alternate sampling periods by half a quantizing step, effectively doubling the number of quantizing steps available for a given number of comparators. The resulting output signals from the comparators are coded at 13, decoded at the receiver 14 and halfquantizing-step-amplitude pulses are added to alternate samples at 15. If the input analogue is a video signal, the switching signal So for the reference levels may be the vertical synchronizing signal. It is mentioned that other fractions of the quantizing step, e.g. <SP>1</SP>/ 3 , “, <SP>1</SP>/ 5 could be added to the reference levels. |
