1508574 Portable containers PLASTONA (JOHN WADDINGTON) Ltd 20 June 1975 [29 June 1974] 28977/74 Heading B8D A sealed thermoformed, nestable plastics container has an integral base 30 comprising an outwardly convex central portion 34 surrounded by spaced feet 32 on which container is free standing and radial-radiating strap portions 36, which extend between the feet and curve upwardly to the container side wall 12. The strap portions contain the central portion from downwardly below the plane B of the feet bottom surfaces due to creep resulting from an increase in internal container pressure. As shown, the feet are of kidney-shape to define recesses 44 which resist distortion of the base, and the base, apart from the projecting feet, is hemi- or partspherical. The container is sealed by an easyopen seamed-on metal or plastics lid (20), Fig. 6 (not shown), and contains a carbonated beverage. A de-nesting ring 16 is also provided. In another embodiment, Figs. 7-11 (not shown), the feet are of triangular axial section and are more closely spaced to define narrower strap portions. The container may be made of an acrylonitrile plastics, polyesters, or polyolefins, such polystyrene, polypropylene, or polyethylene, the latter being laminated or coated with barrier material, such as macrylic material or polyvinylidene chloride to form a gas-tight lining.
|
