<p>1438594 Vacuum switches WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 11 July 1973 [24 July 1972] 33022/73 Heading H1N In a vacuum switch having an evacuated envelope 2, a pair of separable contacts 8, 9 in the envelope and a vapour-condensing shield 28 to prevent the deposition of metallic particles on to the envelope, the shield is made from two metals, a high conductivity metal, e.g. copper, located adjacent the arcing region and a metal of higher breakdown voltage characteristic, e.g. stainless steel, for the ends of the shield. The shield may be of stainless steel with a copper liner at its central portion, Fig. 3 (not shown) or have stainless steel ends brazed to a copper central section, Fig. 4 (not shown). In further arrangements a copper shield may be provided with rolled stainless steel end portions, Fig. 5 (not shown), or stainless steel beads, Fig. 6 (not shown).</p> |
