An oven is contained in an outer casing. A microwave generator in the space between inner and outer casings is connected by a wave guide to a plate in the back of the oven. The oven contains an infra-red grill which is used to brown the food. The door has a double glazed panel the inner leaf of which is impervious to micro-waves. The oven has electric heating elements on all four sides which are switched on to produce an inside temperature sufficiently high to give the self cleaning action.
