<p>1506134 Filter press for filtering mash A ZIEMANN GmbH 21 June 1976 [21 July 1975] 25656/76 Heading BID [Also in Division C6] In the preparation of beer, mash is clarified to produce wort using a filter press apparatus comprising alternating mash chambers 16 and wort chambers 27 defined by frames with filter cloths arranged on each side of the wort chamber frames, the classification being effected by (i) introducing mash from one brew or in one charge into the mash chambers for wort flow through the filter cloths into the wort chambers; (ii) removing all wort remaining in the wort chambers after completion of such clarification; and (iii) supplying washing or sparging water into one of each pair of wort chambers for flow through the sediment in the mash chambers and discharge as after-wort from the other of each said pair of wort chambers, the direction of washing flow between each pair of wort chambers being reversed for consequetive brews or charges. The filter apparatus comprises mash inlet channel 78 leading into all mash chambers and two feed pipes for water and two discharge pipes for wort (lines 74, 76) connected to the wort chambers by means of branch pipes (75 77), each one of the feed pipes and discharge pipes being connected to alternate wort chambers. First wort remaining in chambers 22 after filtration may be completely removed by supply of tempered brewing water from above (lines 70, 72). The after wort is removed by forcing air into alternate wort chambers by lines 70, 71 or 72, 73. Suitable form of filter press frame are described wherein the feed pipes 70, 72, 74, 76 are formed by pipe sections afixed to each corner of the press frames and communicating with radial bores through the frames at diagonally opposite corners, such that rotation of alternate frames through 180‹ provides the required alternate connection to lines 70 and 76 or 72 and 74. Alternatively, pairs of pipe sections may be combined in a single fitting ata frame side.</p> |
