A rope rescue appliance for high buildings, or from a jammed cablecar etc. consists of the rope and seat for abseiling the injured or trapped persons from the site of the accident etc. to the ground. The appliance includes a cylinder (1) which has two rope guides (2, 3) at the top end when used, the guides held apart so that the rope can be twisted several times round the cylinder between. The seat or belt is made fast to the securement (4) at the bottom of the cylinder. The cylinder may be hollow and partly filled with fluid. The rope guides should be designed as hooks open on two sides to form openings roughly central to the cylinder. It is also possible to use eyelets, open one way or completely closed.
