A machine for cutting rings 12 or discs from a continuously-advancing tube 9 or rod of elastic material comprises a cutter 4 carried by a hollow cylinder 3 mounted in a radial bore 2 in a housing 1 which is rotatable, e.g. by means of a flywheel, at varying speeds, and a compression spring 6 provided between the housing 1 and the base of the cylinder 3, the arrangement being such that when the rotational speed of the housing 1 is increased, the increasing centrifugal force presses the cylinder 3 against the spring 6 so that the cutter 4 is taken out of the cutting position and the tube 9 can be advanced while when the rotational speed of the housing is reduced, the cutter is once more in the cutting position. The cylinder 3 may be counterbalanced by another spring-loaded hollow cylinder, but not having a cutter, provided in a diametrically-opposite radial bore. The tube 9 is fed by means of pulleys 13, 14 and is guided at its front end by a multi-jaw chuck. The rings 12 are ejected through the extension 11 of a funnel-shaped insert 10. The tube or rod may be presented to the cutter directly under the action of the ejecting force of a tube or rod forming machine, e.g. an extruder. |
