1443010 Making clad sheet; jointing by rolling VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE ALPINE MONTAN AG 1 Nov 1973 [19 Dec 1972] 50859/73 Headings B3A and B3M A method of producing a clad sheet by roll bonding comprises placing a separating material 3 between a highly alloyed cladding layer 2 and a soft steel covering sheet 4, joining the layer 2 and sheet 4 together at their edges 9 to form a gas-tight package, inserting the package between two sheets 1, 5 of base material, arranging rails 6 at the outer margins of the base material and sealing the outer package prior to its evacuation, heating the packages, rolling the packages, and separating the cladded base material sheet from the base material sheet firmly connected with the covering sheet. The cladding layer may be of 18/8 stainless steel and the covering sheet may be a killed, unalloyed steel with less than 0À1% C or a low alloyed steel. Zirconium powder is used as the separating material, and the rails 6 are welded at 7 to the base material sheets to form the outer package. When the packages are rolled the base material sheet 5<SP>1</SP> adjacent the covering sheet 4 is positioned lowermost. |
