1,074,116. De-infesting and drying grain. ATLAS-WERKE A.G. Nov. 12, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 46147/64. Heading A2Q. [Also in Division H5] Corn, such as rolled oats, is de-infested by passing it through an annular chamber 1 into which is fed microwave energy, which destroys the inserts by heating them to a greater degree than the corn and also dries the latter. The corn passes by gravity from inlet 5 to outlet 6 through chamber 1, defined by an outer wall of absorbing or reflecting material 3 and an inner wall 2 comprising dielectric material which terminates annular horns 10 connected to waveguides 8 supplied from microwave generators 9. Damping or blocking filters 14 are provided. The inner surface of the wall 2 is preferably coated with polytetrafluorethylene, e.g. to reduce friction. |
