1,115,197. Explosively actuated fasteners. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 31 Aug., 1965 [1 Sept., 1964], No. 37227/65. Heading F2H. [Also in Divisions B3 and F3] A fastener, e.g. a bolt, screw, nail, pin, or rivet, comprises a head 1, a shank 2 depending therefrom, housing a semi-conductive heatsensitive explosive charge 6, and an electrical conductor 8 insulated from the head and passing through it which connects with the explosive charge so that an electric circuit is formed comprising the conductor, the charge, and the body of the fastener. The charge may be in two parts having different explosive powers. In a modification, the fastener comprises an electrically non-conductive body, and the charge is contained in a conductive shell which completes the circuit. Upon ignition the charge deforms the shank 2 to clamp sheets 3 and 4 together. |
