1395755 Jet mills LONE STAR INDUSTRIES INC 4 April 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 15386/ 72 Heading B2A A pulverising apparatus comprises a convergent nozzle section E connected by an elongate duct or throat section B to a divergent nozzle section F, the length of the elongate duct or throat section B being sufficient to permit a mixture of material to be ground and entraining fluid, e.g. steam, to achieve sonic velocity as it leaves the throat section whereby the material can be accelerated to supersonic velocity in the divergent nozzle section F. The pulverising apparatus comprises a material supply tank 10 Fig 1 which is pressurised with fluid e.g. steam, the pressure being smoothly released by a high speed valve D so that the material to be comminuted is discharged along the divergent nozzle F into a volute-shaped chamber C Fig 3. Heavier solids are impacted against a plate 20. Fluid flow takes place thereafter along a chute H into a cyclone T. The product is discharged at 24 and the working systems are operated back-to-back the nozzles F connecting with a chamber C' which has two perforate impact plates 26... 29, Fig 5. The valve D may be replaced by a burstable diaphragm arrangement. |
