The bed may be operated at super atmospheric pressure and boiler tubes are arranged in helices supported by downcomers from stub tubes in the furnace roof which may be removed to facilitate repair and renewal of the tubes. The depth of the bed is changed by varying the rate of removal of bed material, and a sudden reduction in the power requirement of the boiler may be met by dumping part of the bed.</p> |
