The mechanism holds a sack in position for filling, being partic. for a jute potato stack. It has an annular body (1A, 1B), split axially into two or more sections, and with a profiled outer wall accommodating the sack mouth. A drive mechanism brings the sections from the closed to the expanded position. Bosses (11A, 11B) can be mounted on two or more of the bracket sections, so that in the expanded position each forms with its boss a clamp gripping the sack mouth. Each boss can pivot on a frame supporting the bracket, a second drive mechanism bringing each from the retracted to the clamping position.
