<p>The rotary engine has a housing (1) with a bore (4) of approximately elliptical cross-section. The regions (4') being formed by elliptical arcs and joined by circular arcs in the regions (4"). The cylindrical rotor is mounted on a shaft (8) and provided with a number of equally spaced slots (10). Sliding vanes (11) are fitted in the slots (10) and as the rotor rotates, centrifugal forces keep the tips of the vanes pressed against the surface of the bore (4). Air and fuel flow in through the port (14) and is compressed as it approaches the zone (C). The sparking plug (16) ignites the mixture causing it to expand in the region (D) and then to be exhausted through the port (18).</p> |
