The automatic flow control valve consists of two cylindrical housings (7, 8) enclosing a disc (11) with radial vanes (6) attached to a streamlined hub (5). A flexible diaphragm (1) is mounted in front of the disc (11) and supported by a ring (2). The centre of the diaphragm (1) is reinforced with a ring (3). When abnormal flow occurs, the diaphragm (1) is deflected onto the nose of the streamlined hub (5) and shuts off the flow. At the same time the resilient discs (9, 10) mounted behind the rigid disc (11), are compressed by the increase in pressure across the valve so that the disc (11) and diaphragm (1) move to the right. This motion prevents shock due to water hammer in the attached pipes.
|
