<p>An electrical switch can provide an open or closed position for electric contacts and function as an on-off switch. It provides electrical and mechanical locking of the contacts. The switch has two spring loaded contacts (5, 5') connected to terminals (1, 2). The terminals (1, 2) are part of an electric circuit. An insulating material wedge (6) is inserted between the contacts (5, 5') to open the circuit. Movement of the wedge (6) may be made manually or by a motoring action as obtained from an electromagnetic coil or a pneumatic ram. Pressure at the contacts is practically constant. Separation of the contacts may only be a few millimetres even for high currents. Contact wear and operating power are minimal.</p> |
