The bicycle freewheel mechanism is designed to permit the wheel to rotate freely without rubbing or grinding. Freewheel casings are screwed onto a threaded bicycle axle and held stationary by lock nuts. The holder for the roller guide unit is a sleeve positioned on the axle. One end of the sleeve is in contact with the fixed freewheel sleeve while its other end carries a socket into which fits the circular part of the guide unit with which it is coupled. A coiled spring is positioned between one end of the sleeve and the circular part of the guide unit. The socket has diametrically opposed slits in which clips fit to effect the coupling with the guide unit.
