The piston (11) rotates eccentrically in a chamber (2) with an even number of corners, one more than has the piston. The surfaces between the corners are curved towards the centre in both cases. The eccentricity (r) of the piston is such that the sealing strips (13-17) let into its corners are in permanent contact with the chamber walls, creating a number of separate spaces whose vol. varies cyclically as the piston rotates. Halfway between the corners in the chamber wall there are alternately spark plug recesses (22) and radial slots (23). The latter each have an inlet (25) and an exhaust (24) port in one end. These line up with slots in a plate sealing the end of the chamber, each slot extending halfway around the periphery.
|
