The device has a means by which the brain wave activity of a person or animal may be monitored. It has a series of devices (2,4) which beam electromagnetic energy to the brain (10) of the person (8) or animal under investigation. Other devices (4, 12) are provided to receive the electromagnetic energy which is modulated by the brain wave activity. It provides a modified electromagnetic modulated signal which can them be received and evaluated by means of a further set of devices (24, 26).
