The axis symmetrical electron gun has a capillary metal emitter cathode, an anode and a focussing Wehnelt electrode. The latter surrounds the dispenser cathode to which it is electrically and mechanically connected. It has a projecting focussing ring between the cathode and anode. The gun comprises a cathode (1), a Wehnelt cylinder (2) and an attracting anode (3). The cathode (1) has a calotte-shaped emission disc (4) held by a supporting cylinder (5). The Wehnelt surrounds the cathode and contains at its end lying between the cathode and anode a ring projection (7) mounted symmetrical about the axis (6).
